Living Word – “Where the Word is Alive and the Spirit is Free”
Effective Date: 28/07/2025
- Introduction
As part of our calling to be good stewards of God’s creation, Living Word is committed to caring for the environment. We believe that creation care is an expression of our worship, witness, and discipleship.
- Our Commitment
We aim to reduce our environmental impact and to operate in a way that is sustainable, responsible, and considerate of future generations.
This commitment flows from our biblical understanding that the earth is the Lord’s (Psalm 24:1) and that we are entrusted with its care (Genesis 2:15).
- Areas of Action
Energy Use
We seek to reduce energy consumption and use renewable energy where possible.
Waste Reduction
We aim to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials to minimise landfill waste.
Sustainable Procurement
We aim to purchase sustainable, Fairtrade, and ethically sourced products where feasible.
Travel and Transport
We encourage car-sharing, public transport, cycling, and walking to reduce carbon emissions.
Events and Catering
We strive to reduce single-use plastics and food waste at all Living Word events.
- Teaching and Engagement
We will promote biblical teaching on stewardship and sustainability, raising awareness among our church family and encouraging practical action.
We will engage our community and seek to influence positive environmental behaviours through example and education.
- Church Operations and Partnerships
In our decision-making, we will consider the environmental impact of our buildings, suppliers, and partnerships.
We will work with like-minded churches, organisations, and local authorities to advocate for creation care and environmental justice.
- Monitoring and Review
This policy will be reviewed annually by the church leadership team. We will set achievable goals to track our progress in becoming a more environmentally responsible church.
